Phone call from the RSPCA raising money
21 Answers
Feel really mean.... but the RSPCA called me at home last night as I donate each month to them £5 by DD. They were asking for people to raise the amount to £10 each month.. and they are struggling as abandoned pets have shot up by 60% in recent months due to recession.
I feel really mean now as I really cant afford to increase the money I give them.. I know its not much... but every penny really counts right now... but I keep thinking about all the poor abandoned animals!!!
I did promise to give them more money when things are better financially...
Do any of you lot donate to them???
Tugs at the old heart strings eh.. Little Harvey Pickle Pants doesnt realise how lucky he is to have a mummy who spoils him like I do!

I used to have a Standing Order set up with my bank to donate money monthly to a major charity, but they began phoning so often to ask me to increase the amount (which I did several times), that in the end I got fed up with it and cancelled the arrangement completely. Then they phoned to ask why I'd cancelled, so I told them. I put money in collecting boxes now.
Nosha - don't feel mean. You are doing more than some and as much as you can afford. Unfortunately, I do think that if the RSPCA cut some of their enormous administration costs they would have more to spend on abandoned animals.
I don't donate to them - I ended up having a bit of a hissy fit with them when I lost my cat (I phoned their lost animals helpline and they were more concerned with getting my debit card details than trying to suggest things I could do to help find the little sod). The local cats rescue centre on the other hand were absolutely brilliant so I now donate to them. If I've got a bit extra cash I also pop in every now and again with a food parcel. You could do that if you find you have a spare couple of quid every now and again.

I gave money to the WSPA every month. I had to stop due to financial situations. Even when you do give them money they fish for more. I just couldn't look at the stuff they sent me as it upset me too much.
It's not really fair to guilt trip you into giving money, and as the saying goes, 'Charity begins at home'.

I don't like the way they fail to say they don't operate in Scotland, but are perfectly willing to ask for money here. Many people give to them thinking they are helping out animals in their area but not a penny of it is spent here. The SSPCA had to run a campaign explaining this and asking all Scottish donors to give to the SSPCA rather than the RSPCA.
I would never give money to the RSPCA (wonder if they are going to sue this site for use of their 'trademark'? as they are threatening GSD rescue UK!).
They think that these two GSD's are OK to be kept chained out winter and summer:

This is typical of how the RSPCA use your money to sue other people:
