Any Dog and Cat Home or Animal Rescue Centre, they often have mongrel puppies, I got mine from one and he's just wonderful.   We have had him 7 years now and he's a joy to have.   Good luck with the chosing.  Me I want them all.
If you wait until mid-January, you'll have a massive choice from all the Christmas 'presents' that have suddenly outlived thier novelty - of course, I'm assuming you aren't buying a puppy as a present.
I think vets have notice boards where there may be some info for you.

We got our Megan from a rescue centre run by the RSPCA, made a donation to them , she had been micro chipped, spayed and had allher shots up to date, she is a joy to us all

...and a wise choice going for a mongrel. They will cost less in vets fees and are more sensible that inbred pedigrees
another peak time for rescue dogs is summer holidays when people realise puppy has gorwn up and needs looking after while they go away.
Local newspapers often have a 'pet' section

We got a cat from Battersea Dog's Home on Sunday.

It is a fantastic organisation and I can't recommend them highly enough. They have a branch near Brands Hatch in Kent, the main one at Battersea, London and might have others, for all I know.

Google for their website - they are great and worth going through the process with. They are so helpful and caring. At least give them a ring.
