Their teeth grow with the skull and when the front ones wear down others grow and move from the back. The upper canines (tusks) never regrow. When seven or so sets have gone there will be no more teeth and the elephant dies at an approximate age of 50, depending on what they've eaten during their life. Tree branches wear down the dental hardware faster than grass and soft plants.
