Dog humping leg
4 Answers
We got a rescue dog on Saturday and he keeps trying to hump my leg! He's 7.5 year old male staffy who's been neutuered so I'm putting it down to dominant behaviour.
Whats the best way to handle the situation? I've been pushing him away and saying 'No' in a stern but not shouting voice.
I'm the only male in the house so I think he's asserting dominance on me. He doesnt try this behaviour on with the females in the house to such a great extent.

Use the lead if necessary to start with. Give him a bed or place of his own and send him to his bed and only call him to you to fuss him on your terms. He will be feeling anxious at first so don't be too harsh on him, just firm. Take him out on your own and get him to trust you and bond with you, so he accepts you as pack leader. Plus all the usual things like making him wait for his food till you have eaten, make him wait while you go through doorways, make him sit while you put his lead on.
