Whats the best way to stop mice infiltrating your home (apart from traps)? Think we've got some at the moment, don't want to kill them as I'm an animal lover.

you will have to block all entrances..check your back and front door they are so tiny they can get in that way if so then fit one of those door strips to the bottom of door,,check your air vents if neccesary block them for the winter with tin foil ,,i know you shouldnt really do that but i had fields at the rear of my house and mice were coming in via air vents,,,just generally go around and check every possible entrance...if you have a gas fire check behind their as i had a mouse living behind mine he was really warm and cosy,,,hmmm,,i have a next to useless dog that would just sit and watch the mice going around scavenging...check under kitchen sink and where your washing machine is plumbed in as their may be a gap their..best of luck,,gypsy
You can get an ultrasonic pest repeller that frightens them away. We have one in our attic to stop the squirrels but the company we got it from does a smaller one for mice.  http://www.martleyelectronics.co.uk/pestcontrol-rodent.html#mps

Following on from ursula62 the ultrasonic repellent is a good idea, but if you want something cheaper you can also get one from Argos. Its costs 12.99 and you just plug into an electric socket. See:-

As Gypsy rightly says, you need to block all potential entrances.  I have mice.  They used to run about in the kitchen until I blocked all the gaps under the kitchen sink where the pipes come in.  You can use that expanding foam that comes in a can.

To catch any already in, I used humane traps but you have to release the mice at least half a mile away or they'll find their way back, apparently!

And I have an old cat who is extremely attentive mouse-wise, for the half hour he manages to stay awake every day...

You can buy humane mouse traps, which traps the mouse, doesn't kill it, then you can go and let it go ( a long way away)
