A nut is a 'seed' & if you look at these three categories: Animal, Vegetable or Mineral, I would class it under the vegetable one. Although some would say it's a fruity nut!

From an on-line dictionary:

  • An indehiscent, hard-shelled, one-loculated, one-seeded fruit, such as an acorn or hazelnut.
  • A seed borne within a fruit having a hard shell, as in the peanut, almond, or walnut.
  • The kernel of any of these.

..so I would say that put it within the "fruit" category.

Making it clearer, it would be classed as a 'vegetable' under the Animal, Vegetable or Mineral categories. But, as it's a 'fruity seed', I would class it as a fruit.

:0)  I'm just trying to imagine anyone who would think a seed was either an animal or a mineral !

LOL, p'raps I was beng a bit too technical, but you know what I mean - I'm still laughing!
I dont normally answer but enjoy reading the knowledge of others, all I know is a Peanut is not technically a nut but a legume.
