My 19 year old cat is poorly
7 Answers
After all i went through with bob having to be put to sleep now my very old cat (Jess ) has started throwing up, She wants to eat biscuits but everytime i let her eat them within 10 minutes she has regurgitated them all back up, I have had to change my bedding and shut my bedroom door. I will take her into the vets tomorrow Morning, but want some advice in the mean time, I think she is in either liver or kidney faliure and she is very old, has anyone else had an old cat that did this? she does not go out much and uses a litter tray so i know some of the food is getting down but she has just developed this head swaying as well which is a worry, she does not look in pain and is managing to jump up on to work tops and get up the stairs ok
I Think the whiskers biscuits has to much cr@p in it so am trying her on wet food, She does not like cooked chicken and is a very picky old madam,
so if anyone has any helpful advice please post
many thanks

A friend of mine had an old cat called Badger, every time poor Badger was ill my friend was sure that he was on a one-way trip to the vet. However Badger kept going for years.
At Jess's age just give her what she wants to eat - and see the vet and say what he/she says. It might be nothing at all.
Susan - who totally freaks out when one of her own cats is ill.

Hi Jo, I'm sorry to hear about your wee cat. My 17 year old cat was doing much the same thing for a few weeks and started losing a lot of weight. I don't want to depress you but in Shelley's case it was a tumour in her chest which was pressing on her oesophagus and causing her to bring up her food again. Unfortunately all the vet could do was give her a steroid injection and hope for the best. For a week she was like a new cat - full of energy and curiosity and very affectionate, but after a week she went downhill in a matter of hours and I had to have her put to sleep. I hope this is not the case with Jess. The vet will probably do blood tests to check her liver and kidney function first, then investigate further if those tests are all clear. Good luck and I hope Jess is ok.

Thanks Wolf and Karen, She has not been sick since 4pm, I do think its either a tumour or her organs are not working as well as they should be, Karen that is very sad about your cat, I know time is iminent and jessica is looking very tattered fur wise i do brush her but she does not like it alot so i try to kep it to a minimum, She is still very active and walks really well, I just feel that her old age is just started to get the better of her, We went to the vets around 3 months ago for a check up and the vet gave her the all clear but gave me me some Aktivate for cats they were meant to stimulate the brain ( but only men could have made them as they were such an enormous capsule that were meant to be swallowed hole) there was no way i could give them her.
anyway when i look at her she squawks at me so i know that she is in no pain...I will keep you all updated
Many thanks

Try a bit of boiled fish. You need to take her to the vets. If she has kidney failure the vet mat be able to prolong her life. Our last cat Suki, died of kidney failure. She was about 16 but maybe older (a rescue cat). I know what you're going through..prepare for the worse. If the worst happens God forbid, take the bull by the horns and go get a replacement. We bought a couple of kittens Sooty and Smokey and it took our mind off the sad passing of Suki and took ten years off us or should I say put ten years of stress onto our lives.
Hope things work out for you and especially Jess (of Postman Pat fame no doubt!)
