Breeding Turtles

I have two 1 year old yellow belly turtles which live in a tank with UV lighting and a basking platform (the tank obviously filled with water) at the moment there is no gravel or anything in the bottom of the tank but i have just bought some sand to put in the bottom of the tank because i have heard that if turtles want to breed, they like to have sand to bury their eggs in (i am hoping they will breed), could anyone give me any information on how to breed turtles, do they need to live on dry land all the time or can they breed in water? anyone who has experience would be great or if you have any links to sites which will give me info, that would be good also. TIA :-)
