My dog suffers from boils

My 4 year old Lhasa Apso keeps getting boils on her rear end. I have taken her to the vet who says that small domesticated dogs cannot empty their scent glands and the boil is a result of this. She was given antibiotics, however it is happening too often. The last boil she had I burst myself to relieve the pressure, I cleaned it regularly with salt and water and also used tea tree oil to prevent further infection but after a few weeks it has come back. I am worried I am doing something wrong. Can anyone help?

leave out oils. Wash with warm salted water, dry & sprinkle with athletes foot powder.....its antiseptic & anti-fungal.

If he means anal glands, then increasing the amount of fibre in the diet can help to empty them naturally. I learned to empty one of my dogs' glands myself as he needed it doing often.
It does sound like the infections might be staying at the bottom of the boil so the top heals over leaving a a reservoir of infection at the bottom which makes another boil. such deep infections need special care, they need to be kept open and allowed to heal from the bottom. If it was my dog i would be wanting more info from the vet about prevention/cure and if you are not happy then try another vet!
