You don't say what area you are in, but here are some contact details for a Jack Russell society in East Anglia. I don't know them, but people like this are always a good place to start; they can steer you away from puppy farms and bad breeders, towards dogs needing rehoming, or families whose dog is having puppies soon. Remember: never buy a puppy without meeting its mother and checking out her temperament. Look at the environment the puppies have been kept in; if a family allows their child to be rough with the puppies they may have learned not to trust people or children. If the puppies are kept outside in a breeding pen they may not be as affectionate as puppies brought up in someone's home. Try to buy from people who had a litter for fun before spaying their dog. You may not get a Crufts champion but you'll get a loving puppy. Don't be afraid to ring lots of people and just ask for advice on where to go and what to look out for. Most people will be happy to pass on what they have learned. Don't touch a puppy from a litter where any puppy looks ill, no matter how sorry you feel for the pups. Good luck!
