ants

I have always been plagued by ants in my garden but now they seem to want to climb up all the shrubs and trees in swarms. i have not seen them eat the leaves but they have got eaten by something. Are they leafcutter ants and is there something i can wrap around the stems to stop the ants crawling up ?

Can you post a pic of the ants (if you can google one) so we can look? You can buy bands of sticky stuff to wrap round trees - garden centre etc - the bugs and insects get caught in the sticky.

It is a fair bet that your plants have aphids. Aphids secrete honeydew, a sugary substance, which ants go to great lengths to obtain.. Your ants will be climbing up to find the aphids.The damage is being done by aphids or other pests, not the ants.

Leafcutter ants are not found living in the wild in Europe. They are native to Central and South America and parts of Mexico.

Agree with Fred, aphids are your problem. Hunt around your garden and find some ladybirds 9as many as you can), but them in your trees, they will eat the aphids, ants will go elsewhere, end of problem, and no chemicals.....................sorted!
