When we were younger there was a type of fish which we called glashen. Looking at some pictures I think it is a pollock but different sites seem to show different fish in the images from other sites. Does anyone have a site with pictures of fish rather than drawings so I can check?

Aye red I saw that one and the pollock shown there doesn't look like what I'd call a glashen but the one in this article does http://www.guardian.c.../14/food-foodanddrink and I'm just wondering which is which?
Glashen is the Irish word for Colefish. If you look at Colefish Pics and compare to Pollock !

Looked up colafish and got this website http://www.google.ie/...l%3Den%26tbs%3Disch:1 The thing is that the poolock and coalfish look very similar, one appears darker than the other but that could just be the lighting of the photos.
It could well be a pollack, I've been going sea fishing for years and while I;ve never heard of a Glashen, I've found that many types have fish are called by different names in different parts of the country and some times even by size, for instance a Pouting is often refered to as a Scotch Haddock, or a small Coley as a Billet so it could just be a name local to where you grew up
Childish are called glashen on the north coast of Northern Ireland. Pollack are called liath.
