Turtles? Slugs? A little more information might help
They are called eggs, you will find they come from a member of the bird family, apparently they are edible :-)

Vmclemore, if they are little white sticky balls under the soil, they are slugs or snails. Squish 'em.
Little lad next door is always kicking his football into my garden. I've got a multi coloured cluster of them nestling in one corner right now. I'll chuck 'em back when it stops raining!
