How long does it take bird fledglings to fly the nest?
I have an acute phobia of birds which is bad enough, but a nest was built high up in the roof above my front door, as a result , I have splats of bird poo all over my front door and step from the family of feathers living above me,
thank you
I varies depending on the bird we had a robins nest in the garden and it was about 2 weeks from when the young hatched to taking flight. As any of the Osprey watchers will tell you it took a while longer for the young osprey to make their maiden flights
Just had a look on the RSPB site and swifts usually fly at about 6 week, apparently unlike other birds were the parents continue to feed fledglings for some time after they actually start to fly, with swifts once they fly out of the nest they are on their own, so they leave the nest later, but getter developed, then many other birds do
Welcome to the best category on AB! Sorry to tell you but don't swifts always return to the same place every year to nest (usually on almost the same day each year)?
They might be house martens - yes, they came back every year when I was a child. They will build every year if they like your house, you might need to fix up some chicken wire or similar to put 'em off next year.
