Little furry thing

I saw a little brown furry animal scurrying across our garden path towards some birdseed that had landed on the floor. When I got up to the window to get a better look it scurried away and hid but I saw it again the next day. Its just like a little ball of fur about 2" long. Doesnt appear to have a tail and I couldnt see its face to make out what it looked like. It wasnt a small hedgehog as it wasnt prickly, more furry. Any ideas what it could be ?

shrew or vole? They do have tails, but not longones.

Thanks LL. My husband mentioned shrew. I`ll google them both and see what comes up

shrews are longer and narrower bodied vole more likely

Anyone nearby lost a hamster? I once found one wandering along the street late at night.

the cats bring in voles, could well be one of them.

Thanks all. Our cat never brought in anything when he was alive. He couldnt catch a cold. Too lazy. Ive googled and it could be vole. Havnt seen it since
