what would happen if i put a flea collar on my 4 1/2 month old kitty when packet says 6 mopnths plus?

just bought a flea collar and got it home and realised its for 6 months plus but my cats are 4 and 1/2 months.... can i still use it?

There must be a reason why they say 6 months or older. Put the collar aside to use if you still need it later.

I would not put any collar on any cat, let alone such a little kitten, their necks are too small. My cat Rover nearly hung himself when his collar got caught on the window catch - and yes, it was one with an elastic panel which is supposed to let them slip their heads out. I have heard of cats being hung from trees when they catch their collars on twigs and can't escape, and my No. 1 son slipped his collar and end up with his foot caught in it so he couldn't run. I would never put a collar on another cat, it's why I got rid of my magnet-opening cat door. Please don't put a collar on your kitten, there are plenty of spot-on flea treatments very readily available, which work and which are 100% safer than a collar.

I agree with boxtops ,I once found my cats collar hanging on a low branch of our willow tree after she came home without It.

I just hate collars,they cause such nasty accidents,i have used spot-on Frontline for a long time now.If you use it all year round,there's no way cats should get fleas.
