if it is, i hate it! we always have one where we live and it freaks me out (i don't do flying things). every night at about nine if my cats are out, i go and call them at the back door with a chirp and the bloomin' bats (from two doors up's ivy - which is very overgrown) come out to investigate...sends me scurrying back indoors until i can't see them anymore! x
hi karen - when me and mr first lived together, it was in a converted workhouse where about 60 flats were created. we had a lovely walk in wardrobe where a stain started coming through the ceiling and duly let our landlord know. within four days, the ceiling fell through (thankfully we were on the top floor!) and streams of bats came flying into our bedroom. i think it is probably this event that has fuelled my fear...anyway - if you can imagine a naked me screaming and running down three flights of stairs at four in the morning, you get a rather funny mental image. at least then (aged 16) i had a body to die for, no shame and an exhibitionist streak...x
when adult flies emerge from their pupa they cannot fly because their wings haven't stiffened sufficiently so they put all their energy into walking. after half an hour or so they can fly. imagine.... 'dead rat -maggots-pupae-walking flies-flying flies' just a suggestion. they could after all be ants as previously mentioned, but you would know the difference wouldn't you.
