Reviving Bumblebees

Can bumblebees that are on the ground looking a bit "dazed" be revived with a little honey, or is this just an old wives tales? I'm getting concerned about the number I am finding in this state recently, as well as the numerous dead ones I am coming across in an area that I often walk!

not sure about bumble bees but i did this with a honey bee and it worked, i saw a tired and dazed looking honey bee on the wall of my garden and put a small blob of honey in front of it and within seconds it started to eat/drink the honey, i went back out 5 mins later and it was gone.

Cheers Dave. I'm no David Attenborough, but I think these are bumble rather than honey bees and I'm reluctant to try the honey in case it does them more harm! I've found the British Bumblebee Conservation Trust website so I'll see whats what there!

they're drunk from over-ripe fruit - put them in a cell for the night. Hahahah !

you could try sugar water, a few spoon fulls of sugar in a small amount of water till all the granuals have dissolved then put a drop of this near the bee.

I take it tonyted, that you mean chilled as in cold and not as in very relaxed!!! Worth a go though!

you can feed bees and it helps especially early in the year. Put the bee in a warm place, eg sunny window sill with a little sugar syrup. Never feed bees honey because it carries bugs from other bees that won't harm us but can kill bees who are not immune to the bugs and can infect other bees too. Its fascinating to see them eat.

I am sure I read somewhere that bumble bees fall to the ground and die after mating ??

Tamborine you are disgusting. A bee deserves to live its life just like you. How would you like to be stamped on and squashed when drunk? Where were you when compassion was dished out? In the pub?
