My goldfish has been acting ill the last few days.

It's; either been floating near the top, laying on the bottom or acting as if it's stuck in the plants, laying there, as if it's dead for a few seconds then fluterring about a bit . . . . .

Dying goldfish make great Pike bait... it's the erratic, distressed movements see...

You are going to lose molly...google fish euthanasia and do it kindly...
Too squeamish to bash mine over the head or chop its head off... Lost a lovely one a few months ago...replaced it with three sarasa comets far tougher

Add Alka Seltzer to the water ??

So if the fish has a digetion disorder, it might actually strat to feel better ...

... just before the Alka Seltzer kills it.

Now that would be a bummer. "Hey guys, I'm feeling bett ... eeeuuughh !"
dont do anything to soon, there was a story on my local BBC radio station were a woman had taken a dead fish out of her child's tank an hidden it on top of the fridge to flush it when the kids weren't around, she forgot about it and it was up there nearly 2 days. When she finally remembered about it she went back and the fish was alive!

I had something similar happen to one of mine, i changed the water in the tank and forgot to put the tapsafe stuff in, anyway one of the fish sunk to the bottom and lay there upside down for over a day and then suddenly started swimming around again its been fine now for the last 8 months!

There was only left over food because it didn't eat any of its share to start with, there isn't normally any that goes to the bottom.

I did doc.

I heard a similar story on here dan.
a fish out of water for two days???? sounds like one of those urban legends where it happened to a friend's, friend's, friends, Auntie!
a goldfish for an auntie... cooool
alkaseltzer would probably be good for the euthanasia job, anybody tried it, obviously not on yourself as you wouldn't be reading this if you had and it had, worked that is. so anybody reading this that it didn't work on.?
We were so poor we threw a load of alkaseltzer in the bath and pretended it was a jacuzzi
If you have the euthanise the fish the best way to do it is to get a small bowl of water and add clove oil, at least ten drops, put the bowl in the freezer until it starts to form ice crystals then add the fish, it will be dead in under ten seconds.

So if the fish is dead when you come back place it on top of the freezer for 2 days?

If it comes alive after two days, I'll give up breathing.
I had a terrible incident with my last goldfish. My kitten pulled the bowl over and tipped the water (and contents) into the sink. Mr Mac heard the commotion and rushed in to the kitchen, when he lifted the washing up bowl the fish was there flapping about but never having had fish he didn't know what to do so he came upstairs to get me. I rushed down to save it only to find it squished below the bowl - he'd only gone and put it back in the sink on top of my poor wee fish :(
The fish on top of the fridge was in water wasn't it ? otherwise it would be a true miracle and the pope would have to beatify it. But fish don't have souls so that would be another miracle.. a soulless saint ! sorry wrong thread.
By the way I have noticed over the years a certain incompatibily between cats and goldfish ( though not a digestive one).
