Neighbour's dog
19 Answers
I found my neighbour's dog last night when I was walking my own. I managed to get her home, but when we got to the garden she lay down and refused to move. The guy came out and as soon as he went near her she started going mad like she was terrified. He took her in and I went home, but I went out on the veranda for a cig and I could hear the poor dog yelping like mad. I dunno what to do about it though. He's a bit of a hard man and I don't want to get on his bad side but the poor dog! She's lovely too, a husky and so friendly and well behaved (apart from escaping occasionally - and I think that may be down to her not being walked enough ). Any suggestions of what to do without getting him on my case?

I also worry that if they took the dog away it could end up being destroyed as the local home is full to bursting.
My friend had a neighbour who she witnessed and heard treating the dog badly. Uspca wasnt the answer, cos as usual with animals, too much red tape is required to remove it from a bad existence. The dog was kept outside all year round on a chain,so one night, she and her son climbed the fence and took it. Not legal I know, but, that dog then went to a lovely home where he is having a proper doggy life.If you know someone who wants a friendly, loving dog, maybe you might not bother to return him,the next time he runs away ;-)
Yeah its a nice idea, but in practice.....no idea how well the dog is socialised, not very well I should imagine, so would probably need a lot of dedication and a very experienced owner. They have told us they are thinking of getting rid of it, and then in the next breath indicated they were thinking of getting another dog of a different breed! Like that one is no good so they can just go and get another model! Soz Karen for hijacking your thread.
ahh please dont give up and try to get this poor dog help... He is obviously abusing the dog...
She is pleading with someone to help her! Do you know someone who could take it in? Or give it a home? What if the dog mysteriously went missing again???
If he works and the dog is in the garden.. could you not 'help it escape' and then find it somewhere safe to go to as a temporary home?
Why would someone bother getting a dog then treat it like this! Just awful... Maybe try another animal charity other than the SSPCA... I dont know of any.. but surely someone could help somewhere!!!!
Dont let on that you know about this to the neighbours just yet though...

actually this reminds me of something a very close friend of mine did once. In a pub with friends - she saw this guy kick his dog... then order the dog to come back to heel.. then he kicked it again and called it back to heel in front of all his mates... thought he was really macho abusing the dog then making it come back to him.
She is a HUGE animal lover and so she walked right up to him (all 5ft 4inches of herself) and kicked him right in the shins.. and said if she saw him touch the dog again.. she'd repeat it!!!
I know she would give this Husky a home in an instance but she lives in a flat at the moment....
I am in the South East.. but am sure I could find someone who would home a rescue dog! Bit tricky to get her here though I guess!

He has another dog too, who doesn't seem to be scared of him, but then she doesn't run away. He's a bit of a thug too - my oh witnessed him hitting his wife a while back. They have 2 little girls who absolutely adore the dog - the older of the 2 was out looking for her when I turned up at the house with her (the girl is only 10 and it was after midnight!). The guy is just trouble through and through. I used to see him out with the dogs, but now I only see him at the shop buying his nightly bottle of Buckfast. I don't want the dog to suffer but at the same time I don't want to stir up any trouble for the rest of the family and I don't want to make myself a target - I've brought the dog home to them a couple of times and he knows I've witnessed her behaviour when she sees him. All I'm doing at the moment is keeping a watchful eye on things till I figure out how I can do this. I'd take the dog myself, but I've already got 2 cats and a dog, and I don't know anyone who'd be willing to take her on - it's a big commitment cos she needs a lot of exercise. It's a worry. But thanks to all for your suggestions, I'll be weighing them all up in the next wee while x
Oh Karenmac he sounds like a really nasty piece of work...
If you do decide to take any action.. I think the best approach would be for when the dog goes missing again.. then just dont return it home...
Its a very tricky situation. But you sound committed to finding a solution for the poor animals suffering.. Good on you!
If I can help by perhaps searching for a potential new home.. let me know... I live in a lovely area in Surrey and know lots of people who live nearby... who have dogs and two people who recently had their dogs put to sleep so may want another one one day.
I would be happy to put the word out for a home for her!
In fact a neighbour recently took on another husky type dog - rescue dog... it was only a year old and had spent its whole life living in a cage... He's very naughty and totally untrained.. but they are putting him in Doggy Bootcamp! He's lovely though!
