Can anyone identify this bird please?

i saw about 100 of these birds all on a grassy bank about 9 o'clock last night. same shape as a pigeon but slightly smaller. they were white with pale grey wings.

Presumably in the UK and it was dark? Those colourings suggest some kind of gull.

sorry, yes scotland in a town, Prudie. Dottie, they were very similar but no black markings on the tail. it was the amount of them that drew my attention at first, all pecking at the grass. Although it was dark there are a lot of overhead lights as it's a retail park.

as they get older they lose the black tip on the tail I think

Black headed gulls probably. They lose the black head over winter.

Some kind of Duck?

Andrew Flintoff was out for a duck yesterday.

They were half price in Tesco.
