Using a clicker for puppy training

I've been using small treats to train my 6 month old pup, with good results on the whole. However he can sometimes get a bit excited and "grabby", trying to get the treat in the middle of an action.
Been reading up on clicking and then treating and thinking of giving it a go, but a lot of the sites I've looked at don't go into specific details.
Before I invest in a clicker and a training book to go with it, would anyone on here recommend it as a good training method?

You need to be consistent, but it can work really well.

Its a good method if you get the timing right, but I would suggest you go to a trainer who uses clicker training rather than try to do it yourself. Taking what you say above about the dog being 'grabby' with a clicker you would wait till the dog releases its grip or grab and then click and treat, totally ignoring the grabbing. A video would be better than a book as you can get an idea of the timing. Try the Mary Ray one, and if you can get to one of her 'cabaret' nights they are fantastic.

Thanks for that link Alagopus, had a quick look, it looks really helpful, will have a proper read tomorrow.
Lankeela, thats what I was thinking about the clicker possibly helping with the grabbing, it would give a second or two delay before giving the treat. He doesn't do it all the time, mainly when I'm teaching "roll over" and "stand up".
Will have a look at the Mary Ray video, she lives locally and my MIL knows her, but til I got a dog and started looking at training methods I hadn't realised she's nationally renowned!

PS My previous dogs were weimaraners, theses are weimaraner x gsp. One and all on bad weather days they have REFUSED to jump out of the car on occasion when the weather has been really bad.
