dead cat in road...

last night i was driving back froma friends house about 2am, andf came to a dead cat in the road...i got out to look incase it was still alive, but its was quite clearly very newly dead...

what should i have done? i just left it because i was a bit upset and couldnt bear to touch or or anything...

but as i was walkin back to my car, a man came past...he went over an hoofed the cat to the kerb...probably so it didnt get totally squashed, by the next car...(the cat was still intact except for a bit of blood on the face) - but then he just walked off

whats usual thing done in these circumstamces? someone must move them? maybe the owners wil find him today and take him, but what if not?

at 2am? Im sorry but at that time of morning, if i was alone, i would not stop.

during day, or if with Mr CRX then Id stop and we'd check for ID. If a chip then we'd even go as far as taking it vets. If not chipped and without collar then i would move off the road and leave it

I doubt there is much you could have done bar move the body to the side of the road, without knowing who's cat it is and the fact that it was already dead, there isnt a lot else to do.

How would you know it had a chip Red? Cats shouldn't wear collars really..

When our loved cats go missing,it's always good to know just what happened to them.I know it might sound a bit morbid but-maybe a pic or a notice in a local shop,informing people of the situation.

Let your local council yard know about it as they will go & collect it & keep a record of where & when they picked it up. The owners of the cat may ring them.

Id have left it well alone as dead animals are biohazards or could've been poisoned which could affect you if an open wound is infected by bacteria from the dead animal or if you cut yourself on its teeth or claws. How do you know what the animal died of and whether or not it had rabies? You don't so self preservation should prevail over morals in situations like these. If the animal was a danger to traffic then my advice would've been to call the police and they would or should send out a unit to deal with the obstruction.

i suppose by now someone wil have dealt with it...it was a main road...oh no just realised right outside a primary school! it was by the crossing...those poor kids!
i might have been traumatised as a child to see that...

Thank you vibrasphere I've always been a firm follower of Safety first.
Joko not traumatised but definitely a curio factor. I remember as a child finding a squashed hedgehog in the road and when we turned it over with a stick the whole underneath was crawling with maggots which then lead us to believe that hedgehogs had maggots in their stomachs till we grew older.
