5 Answers
Hi guys advice needed! We've just a 1 year old terrier cross ( not sure wat he's crossed with ) however we're trying to train him as he's tormenting our other pets I/e hamsters, tortoise , fish and our other dog ( jack Russell ) we've moved the other pets out of his reach but he's scrapping to get to them, He also doesant sleep very well at nite an when we get up in the morning he yelps & barks constantly waking my other half who works nites! Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to calm him down please? We have a water spray that we use when he jumps on the side or kitchen table,Many thanks xx

It's really hard to give training advice over the net when there are so many issues to address, the way I see it you have two options.
One you get in touch with a good behaviourist [your vet should be able to recommend one], they can be expensive but if you get a good one they're worth their weight in gold!
Two, read up on one training technique and stick to it. You could try clicker training as he's a terrier he should pick it up quickly. You will be trying to train calm behaviour.
The main thing is to be consistent.

Sounds to me like he needs a lot of exercise to get rid of some excess energy. He should then settle a bit better. Get a crate and when he comes in from a run give him a bone or pigs ear and let him spend some time in his 'den'. This will give him somewhere to chill, and let the other dog have some peace, Make time to play with him on his own, throwing toys for him to fetch and hiding things under cushions etc, with lots of praise when he brings things to you.
