Would I be a bad person to commit a mercy killing on my pet Barn Owl?

I've had a tame pet Barn Owl for a few years now and unfortunately my owl has recently contracted paratyphoid and is getting sicker and sicker and it really is killing me to see it in pain and losing it's feathers knowing that each breath it takes and each day brings it pain and misery and I've decided to end it for him as he's family and I can't take any more of his wheezing, spluttering and sickly hooting, is there a way I can humanely do this? I have two rottweilers but couldn't throw him to them as it would be a barbaric massacre and I also want him in one piece so i can bury him by his favourite tree.
Please give me some humane ideas.
Thanks, a sad barn owl keeper.

Is a visit to the vet humane enough Angie?
Err I think you should take it to the vets like Andy says. Unless this is a wind up!

I was told by a friend that birds or animals have to be confiscated and destroyed by the vets especially if the animals have contagious diseases and the owner wants to bury them outside where they could further be dug up by badgers or foxes and the disease back into the food chain where it could wreak havoc in the food chain so that's not an option.

A wind up? Nobody could be that sick or cruel to make something like this up!

If you wish to be humane, then think of your pet first, and not your wishes for his corpse.

Get him down to the vet today.
Go to the Vets NOW, leave the owl at home, he'll be fine with the Rottweilers, and the vet may give you something to help with your "condition"
Just ring its neck, its quick and pretty painless if you do it without faltering.
This thread was a wind-up....doubt there is any truth in it.
Shocking waste if not used in a pie. Wring neck & remove pluck first. Fry feet chinese-style. let the rotweilers look for another 'un in the woods.
