I'd go with "woofie's" lol advice too. A local canary club is where you find valuable info. Forget books, usually written by authors that have never kept birds.
If finance is a consideration and you can hold a hammer, buy some cage fronts from petshop or internet. Then you can build a breeding cage for less than half price.
I think "woofies" advice is halfway there ,I would also suggest that you buy young birds from someone at the club and don't buy yet , you will meet lots of new people and may be it won't be canaries you end up with , there are so many other birds kept in a similar way and once you have bought them you can expect them to live about 7 years
