Just changed my avatar (I think!) to show my GSD Rico with his dad who won the Pastoral Group at Crufts on Friday, so will be taking part in Best In Show tonight. He is called Rico as well, although his posh name is Ch Elmo Vom Huhnegrab. Go Rico!

Very best of luck lankeela (although I'll be rooting for the boxer as that's my favourite breed)

Nice Boxer, done a lot of winning in the last year. The Wire Fox Terrier is the judge's breed, so a big chance, although if the Chinese Crested wins today that might be favourite.
Good luck, he is a lovely dog. I do like the Flat Coat and Basset Griffon Vendeen though.

All top winners so far. Wonder if the Akita will take the Utility group?
Good Luck, we recorded the show on Friday and we know the Polish Lowland Sheepdog and breeder!
Lankeela, well done, there is a lovely picture of your dog on crufts results website, lovely looking lad,....good luck for tonight, we went yesterday it was very very busy.

Wish he was mine Josephine, I have his son!
sorry you didnt win.
i liked that reseve one
Don't the GSD owners ever feel they are 'against it' as that breed seems to have fallen out of favour for Best in Show. We had a pet GSD about 40 years ago when one won and I can not remember another one since.
The winner nowadays always seems to be one of those fancy breeds. Although my favourite dog is a Border collie, a German Shepherd seems to me to be the quintessential dog, maybe because it represents it's ancestral link so closely.
Oh well that's a shame lankeela, the boxer didn't win either. So Rico lives in Weymouth? that's less than 10 miles from me.

Prudie the kennel name is Veneze, they have boarding kennels at Portesham.
Question Author
Wildwood 1971 was the last time a GSD was Best In Show, Ch Ramacon Swashbuckler. Since then the breed has suffered from a split in the show ring - very extreme types have emerged especially since many were imported from Germany and Elmo is the first dog for many years to bridge the divide, winning under judges from both sides. Its because he is so unexaggerated that he wins under all types. He has done a great job for the breed.
I wish I had placed a bet now. I think I want a PBGV, she is just so cute.
