Crufts Best In Show
29 Answers
Just changed my avatar (I think!) to show my GSD Rico with his dad who won the Pastoral Group at Crufts on Friday, so will be taking part in Best In Show tonight. He is called Rico as well, although his posh name is Ch Elmo Vom Huhnegrab. Go Rico!

The winner nowadays always seems to be one of those fancy breeds. Although my favourite dog is a Border collie, a German Shepherd seems to me to be the quintessential dog, maybe because it represents it's ancestral link so closely.

Wildwood 1971 was the last time a GSD was Best In Show, Ch Ramacon Swashbuckler. Since then the breed has suffered from a split in the show ring - very extreme types have emerged especially since many were imported from Germany and Elmo is the first dog for many years to bridge the divide, winning under judges from both sides. Its because he is so unexaggerated that he wins under all types. He has done a great job for the breed.
