Sad Osprey news from Rutland
11 Answers
A male Osprey from one of the outer nests at Rutland has been missing since last Thursday. They now believe it has been shot (2 were lost this way last year). The female is still incubating the eggs and the team there are making food available to her. The problem for her will be feeding the young when they hatch because they will be unprotected from corvids etc when the female is off fishing. Osprey eggs should be hatching soon across the country, probably over the weekend.

There are 5 active nests at Rutland as far as I know. Two put out reports, Manton Bay (webcam) and the mysterious site B which doesn't have a published location but gets reports. The others are kept secret, this is where the lost bird is from. Manton bay has eggs as does site B and the lost bird nest. The Osprey return was very good again this year so I expect all nests have eggs
