Sad Osprey news from Rutland

A male Osprey from one of the outer nests at Rutland has been missing since last Thursday. They now believe it has been shot (2 were lost this way last year). The female is still incubating the eggs and the team there are making food available to her. The problem for her will be feeding the young when they hatch because they will be unprotected from corvids etc when the female is off fishing. Osprey eggs should be hatching soon across the country, probably over the weekend.

How many pairs of breeding Ospreys have you got in Rutland ?

It makes me furious when I read something like that.
Is there any way (and yes I know that strictly speaking it's anti-nature) that Mrs Osprey can be given a helping hand when the time comes ?

If you are starting a shooting party Redman, count me in. It baffles me how people justify the shooting of these birds. There are 5 active nests at Rutland as far as I know. Two put out reports, Manton Bay (webcam) and the mysterious site B which doesn't have a published location but gets reports. The others are kept secret, this is where the lost bird is from. Manton bay has eggs as does site B and the lost bird nest. The Osprey return was very good again this year so I expect all nests have eggs

I don't know how anyone can point a gun at any living thing and know they are going to take its life.It is just beyond my comprehension

Are all the Osprey nests watched over by the RSPB or Wildlife Trust ?
Hopefully someone can be caught and prosecuted.

There is difficulty guarding nests on private land, as this one is, I presume.
