Swallows off

The local swallows have been flying around all day and they are now congregating on the roofs. They must be about to fly off, how depressing!

Wow - our swifts left in early August (and you're not that far from me, are you?) - they got fed up when it was cold and wet.

I never saw swifts at all. I love their screaming (reminds me of when I lived near Canterbury actually!!)There were some house martins this morning too.

When I was little, housemartins used to nest under the eaves outside my bedroom window - it was a lovely experience to see them.

still had swallows as of yesterday.... the last swifts went through about two weeks ago,

The last of the swallows in my local park left this weekend, I'll miss them.

Well must have been a dummy run as they're all still here flying round this evening. I expect they read the forecast for later this week and decided to hang around!

Do they set off in the dark?

they will probably wait until they get a tail wind at the moment we have mild south westerlies so they'd be flying into it...
