Fieldfare

Have had a lone fieldfare in our garden (in Yorkshire) for over a week now, he looks fit and well and is eating all the holly berries, just wondering where all his mates are and will he catch up with them. Usually have flocks of them in adjacent fields this time of year as well redwings.

I am no expert and I am sure you will get better replies, but I know it is nice to see someone reads your posting. Last winter, I twice saw a lone redwing in the fir tree opposite my second floor window. It was about four pm, both times, just as the light was fading.As I too am used to seeing several at once, I assume it had got separated from the others. It hunched up on a branch and , as dusk fell, it retreated to the inside of the tree against the trunk. Obviously, I couldn't see what happened either time, and heard the owl at night, so wondered, but was amazed when it happened twice in three weeks.I hope it went off at daylight to join the flock,but who knows? The same "slowcoach" or another one??

Had a lone Fieldfare often in my last garden Corylus. Let us know if Redwings appear...haven't seen one for an age.

I haven't spotted any fieldfares here in Gloucestershire, but we've had a few redwings - I love them. No holly berries left for the fieldfares when they do turn up as the pigeons have scoffed the lot!
