We've just counted at least 30 in our Cherry Tree. We noticed them a couple of days ago and counted about 12/15... The tree looks as thought it's moving with them. Amazing :o)
Bloody long-tailed tits, coming over here into our gardens, mob-handed ! I, for one, never see or notice them , but when they appear, it's always in great numbers. Same with goldfinches; never ever notice just the one, always several. They must always be about, but where? Amazing sight though, when the long-taileds do descend
keep close eye other birds may join them saw a large bush in Epping forest once full of long tail, blue, great tits, gold crests and goldfinches small birds may flock together for safety
I would like to know what the robin is saying to me because for the past few days he has been shrieking for ages at a time right outside my window, just about 3 feet away fom the 'feeders'. Don't know if he is saying thank-you or 'can;t I have something different' ! Just wish I knew !
Perhaps he's looking for some meal worms julia :o) I love my robin, he's always by my side when I'm gardening. I'll keep my eye's peeled Rowan and report back. :o)
That's lovely mazie...last time I had a flock in my garden one came to the windowsill and I kept seeing it's tiny little face from the beak up frantically bobbing up and down appearing above the window frame...sooo sweet.
40 goldfinches in summer is unusual, long tail tits come to my garden every 2 or 3 days. They do like to rove the area looking for food,if anyone has a tree in the back garden slap a lump of lard on the trunk, they love it.
I put up two seed feeders for goldfinches about a month ago, but no luck so far. I saw one in the summer so hope to see another one soon. We do get a variety of birds but not all the ones I would like to see! We feed them all year round.
Julia - I agree with mazie, I'd only ever seen one passing goldfinch in my garden until I put sunflower hearts out (in a separate feeder to the mixed seed)...now they're regulars all year round.
