Hi Daisy...cuckoos arrive from late March so no, not too early. x

It's just that I don't recall hearing one quite so early before
People have been reporting since about 16th April so you are a bit early too....14th April is traditionally the first day to hear a cuckoo...though how the cuckoo knows the date I don't know...:-)
Daisy...in latest posts it looks like you and I are insulting each other...;-)

How come?
Cuckoo Daisymay....Cuckoo Gness....Cuckoo Daisymay...Cuckoo Gness?
Like playground kids....;-) x
I heard the first one of the year too last weekend. Not a Cuckoo a strimmer.LOL
You lucky devils - our cuckoo still hasn't returned, but several were satellite tagged around here last year and it's not looking good for them. There's an old saying, "The cuckoo is a funny bird, he sings his song in May, and then in June he changes tune - July he's gone away!" so I'm not giving up hope I'll hear one, till the end of May!
None reported calling in my local bird group area...Sheffield, South Yorks & Peak District :-(
The rhyme I know is:

The cuckoo comes in April.
In may he sings all day.
In June he changes his tune.
In July away he'll fly.

I haven't heard one for many years.

Heard first one this morning,
N/Kent.

Great news - makes me believe Spring is finally here when I hear the cuckoo. I suppose I should have given my location too - it's West Suffolk.
It's traditional to write to the Letters Editor of 'The Times' on hearing your first cuckoo in Spring....!
