Driving home today I saw, as I entered my town, a large flock of starlings. I pulled over and the hundreds of starlings turned into thousands.....it was a murmuration!
I watched for twenty minutes as they formed stunning shapes above me. The noise was fantastic.
Then...dozens at a time ...they peeled off and plummeted into a row of conifers.
Not quite the Somerset Levels murmuration but as good as some I've seen in Brighton.....no more trains and hotels....I can cycle across town in ten minutes each evening to watch this...☺

He has got the sniff of a job at an EXTREMELY prestigious (palatial) estate but that is a while in the future, if it happens at all.

have two cock pheasants that come and feed on the seed i throw down for little birds just outside the kitchen window. they dance round each other scratching and pecking all the time. seems a shame that i am feeding them for someone else to shoot. the little birds get right on the edge of the circle and wait for them to go..
