How else are we supposed to kill them? People eat grouse, can you think of a better method? Why just grouse and not pheasant?

Err, don't kill them. They are bred on moorland so people can come along, pay a lot of money and blast them out of the sky.
So they can maximize the numbers of grouse, anything that preys on them is eradicated. Hen harriers, golden eagles, short eared owls and buzzards to name a few are victims.

I listened to someone involved in management of grouse moors pontificating about 'managing the countryside' on TV yesterday.

I could respect the shooting and hunting fraternity far more if they dropped the pretence of 'managing' anything, and simply admitted that the reason why they shoot birds out of the sky or chase foxes so their dogs can tear them to pieces has far less to do with 'managing' an environment, and far more to do with the pleasure of doing it.

This worthy saying "I shoot birds because I enjoy shooting birds …" would not be acceptable, but at least it would be honest.

You need to think more, Jackdaw..... not just jump in with a silly comment. I know from your posts that you don’t have a care for our nature and wildlife..... lots of us do though....

I suppose if people enjoy eating Grouse they would prefer them hooked through their legs, hung up on a rack and have their throats cut so they slowly bleed to death.They don't feel trauma or pain cos a nice man intones a prayer in foreign to ease their suffering. I would certainly have a grouse about that.
I do shoot, but targets not living creatures. It would not stop me eating game of any description if it was shot by someone else who owned a shotgun.

Had a discussion with two friends about this today. Both country born and bred (one married to a gamekeeper) and defended it - said it was a way of life. Could see it from their point of view but didn't necessarily agree with them and said so.

Baldrick. You'd soon sign if it was one of your dog's caught in a snare set by a gamekeeper. Or had eaten some dead animal poisoned by a gamekeeper...
