Reed beds a few miles from me went on fire - apparently someone decided to ignore lockdown and had a BBQ!! Fire rages for hours and spread quickly as it has been so dry. Four fire engines plus a helicopter dropping water have eventually managed to put it out. This is a major conservation nesting area and many chicks and eggs will have been lost. Friend said she heard a very distressed heron who no doubt has lost her chicks. When will people ever learn, so sad.

That is heartbreaking, Maggie.

Yes, we have had no rain for a couple of weeks, been really dry, sunny and warm. Ground is brick hard and I've been watering my plants daily.
Here's the link - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-52449975

I didn't hear any helicopters
I can’t find any news source which says anything about it being started by a BBQ.
That is terrible, some people are so irresponsible.
Very sad.
Poor birds.

Thanks for the video footage Roy. Yes helicopter clearly scooping up water from the Tay.
Thanks Roy.
Absolutely appalling. I don't suppose there's much chance of catching the bustards.
Same at at Marston Moor in Yorkshire. Some brain dead cretins with a barbecue.
My heart weeps for what man does to wildlife.
Marsden moor, melv.
I stand corrected.
I got moor mixed up with Pedigree:-)
Ha, no probs.
Why can't they hold their family barbecue in their own family back garden ? And if they don't have one then they haven't provided barbecue facilities for themselves and ought not to holding one. Not setting the countryside aflame is a basic responsibility. If they have no countryfolk skills they should stay away until they've a guide to instruct them. Idiots.
They shouldn't just be named and shamed, they should be made to pay for the Services used and then publicly flogged.
Still nothing about it being started deliberately.
