We saw waxwings a number of years ago in a retail park car park in Llandudno, completely out of the blue. I wish they’d come near to us this year, such lovely birds.
Probably around the time Red saw them in Bangor, they worked their way up and down the North Wales coast for ages. I kept missing them on my trips up,once by around 15 minutes.
Sightings Christmas Day: 5 at Burnt Hill Way/Kestrel Green - Carlton Colville (Suffolk), 12 at Coulardbank Rd - Lossiemouth (Moray) small flock still at Coulby Newham. Need the wind to come from the North East to drive more over to UK
No sightings reported recently so my guess is they are staying put. Couple at Castle Douglas most recent. I might have to renew my misguided subscription as there are more sightings listed on there as well as other rarities
Still no Waxwings here but we did have a, fairly rare this early in the year, Blackcap on the bird table this morning. I think that there was a hen lurking in the bushes with the reddish brown cap but could not be positive. I would be even rarer if they were paired off already. The only bird that I know of that mates and settles this early in the year is the Heron. No Herons on the feeder.
