A friend of mine lives in a rented cottage on Exmoor, a property of The National Trust. They always had lots of housemartins nesting just under roof. Then, the NT decided to replace the roof and double glaze the windows. When the job had been done, there was no room for the housemartins to nest any more. Well done the National Trust!
Martins returned here about two weeks ago but only saw one myself yesterday. We rarely see swifts here. One of the most magical sights for me was several years ago when we saw lots of swifts soaring and diving above the rooftops in Lisbon
The house Martin's nest at the top of our high rise block , four nests in the recesses on the North and South sides. The swifts when they arrive use the thermals great d by the congested instruction to gain height and they scream round like little fighter jets. Love them!
