Section for Forces

Hi Ed,

Not too sure if anyone else is interested but I think it would be good to have a section for the Armed Forces/family of Armed Forces. I just realised my other half is going away in 3 weekends time for 3 months in Afghanistan, it would be good to chat with others, ask questions etc to those in a similar position. Let me know what you think :)

Hi CAJ1....I think ABerrant's link is valid. I did not know that a military section existed until I clicked 'Topics' at the top of the left hand 'side bar'.

Personally, I can't understand why the 'side bar' is not fully displayed as it is when when one clicks 'Topics'.

For a number of years a tiny subset of ABers (Lonnie and johnlambert/4GS spring to mind) clamoured for a Military section and were duly rewarded with such in 2008.

3 years of existence has seen it garner fewer than 100 threads.

Thanks ABerrant, I didn't realise there was already a sub-topic for it...Ed maybe we could have it so it is seen and not hidden unless you click on S & C? Maybe this would see an increase in posts for this section.

I agree with Ron that all topics should be seen.

This is one of the sections I thought might disappear in the next cull - you know we've had to make some Defence Cuts... I do hope we don't have to put a no fly zone around Society & Culture...

If you'd like to keep the section, I suggest you use it and encourage others with family "over there" to join in and do the same!

Spare Ed, you should consider a career in politics with such talk of cuts! Please keep it for the next 3 months and I will use it and hopefully encourage others to use it too...after that you can bin it as this should be his last tour of duty (fingers crossed) lol! :)

PS: I still think it would be used more if it was visible, I would have been using it a long time ago if I had known it was there!!

I think it needs a bit more critical mass to take off really. If you have friends outside of AB who'd like to talk about this kind of thing why not invite them on to do as such? Once there are a few of you in there you'll gather more (by virtue of the latest posts box).

Lets see what the straw pole on the blog post comes to.

Ok Spare Ed, I'll see if I can invite a few people over to join. I would have thought lots of people would have someone involved with the forces and would want to chat. I've left a post in Military to see if there is any response.

Had a few people reply to my post in Military joko. I know I wrote chat but I meant more to ask questions...ideas for parcels, how others cope when they're OH's are away etc.
