How about leaving the name of the poster in situ when a post is removed for being insulting, rude or deemed hurtful and unnecessary. Some Abers might think twice if they were going to be named and shamed.
Just a thought.

Doubt it....

Although it might be a good idea to save people saying 'who got removed'
Why not leave the answer also and let others decide if it is rude, hurtful or unnecessary.
supported here, Ed!!! Think it is an excellent idea.
Chrissa, thats a really good idea --I totally agree with it
and ummmm has a point - there needs to be a sensible appeal system to those that are unjustly removed.
All it'll achieve is people saying 'ohhh ummmm what did you say?'

No soaps, that would be compounding the felony as it would appal even more people as time went by. Remove the post but leave the name.
Question Author
Maybe ummmm, but you'd be daft if you repeated it.
Agreed, though some might enjoy the notoriety, vis. asbos
to know what some one says can be really hurtfull, so I'd like to see who it was that sends a nasty or sarcastic answer, but not bothered about what they say really
some, very ordinary posts get removed, Depending on what mood the mods are in.

Now how do you know that Mick?
I think the week long ban is sufficient, not being able to post for a long time gives the suspended user plenty of time to think about their behaviour
There would be a bit of a problem with a lot of the trolls names being pretty offensive on their own.
Loads of innocent posts get removed...just like Mick says.

The majority of my -answers removed- I would stand by...
Now how do you know that Mick?

er...by reading very ordinary posts, then seeing them disappear.............
Question Author
Ah, but it would identify them, out in the open.
it would only increase the number of "anonymous newbies" who would register with the purpose to hurl abuse, there would be no shaming in that because we wouldnt be any the wiser to the identity of the troll

Good point Cazzz. Isn't it sad that there are people out there that can find the time, go to all the bother to do this, just to satisfy their warped minds? Sad really.
they have posted their comments on a public noticeboard for all to see...however offensive it may be...i very much doubt many would give a toss if their name was left next to an empty space...

i certainly wouldnt
