Would it be at all possible to have an automatic spell corrector inbuilt into all topics of AnswerBank. I am getting heartily sick of trying to read some O/Ps & having to constantly decipher them whilst trying to make sense of them. I wish people would read what they have typed before pressing the submit button. I am particularly concerned about statements saying ''I no'' instead of ''I know''& the constant misuse of ''there & their''.Call me an old fart if you like I really don't care, all I know is that I was ''taught proper innit''

Do what I do. Move on to another post or thread. I have become much more selective in what I respond to nowadays.
I think it's cute and we shouldn't change a thing.
No spell checker will flag 'there' and 'their'
Or 'know' and 'no'
I'm the same, if a post looks like gibberish, I just move on. The occasional spelling mistake or punctuation error is fair enough.
Don't even look at text speak............................

Couple of errors in your post Whiskeyron! None of us is perfect!

The examples you give wouldn't be picked up by a spell checker because the are grammatically wrong, not spelt wrong.

I get too easily irritated with the mis-use of those words too, though I try to keep it to myself.
You're an old fart. :)

Spell checkers on websites themselves are not practical really as it comes in the form of the link below, meaning people have to actually click "check spelling" and go through the process of checking the spelling and most people can't/won't be bothered to do that. (also a lot of people don't even realise they are using the wrong words with no/know and their/there/they're and a spell checker wouldn't pick them up on it as they are correctly spelt words)

Most browsers (apart from IE!) have the ability to spell check as you type which is much better, but again if people don't enable it or simply use the wrong word it's not going to help
What annoys me is when people use 'to' when they should be using 'too' & vice-versa. & 'gotten' instead of 'got'. - I'm sure there are others too.

didoatwork, it's whiskeRyron, & please point out the errors.

Ron.
spellings aren't an annoyance for me, but misuse of words is - should of instead of should have for eg.
However, I rarely, if ever correct anyone

I use Google chrome and it comes with a built in spell checker so anything misspelt is underlined in red with the 'right click' option to use the correct spelling

Hi Ron, just lacking a space after "I know" and again after "there & their". :)
Though AB doesn't allow "proper grammar" in as much as you can't put a double space after a full stop as the site will remove the extra space.

Though a total lack of a single space after a full stop is unforgivable, Ron. :)
innit , is a bit dodgy two
In the neswpaper industry one space after a full stop is the norm.
This double space thing is completely new to me as well.
