Whan answers are not answers

If I post a question, and someone replies with a pointless non-answer such as "I don't know" the system considers that my question has been answered, and ceases to flag it as an unanswered question.
Do I have to go on putting up the same or similar questions again and again until someone does answer it ?
Or do I have to put in some demand such as "please don't put up a response to this if you don't actually know the answer ? "
By the way, I know there is an answer, it is something I had 5 or 6 years ago but have forgotten.

No....post on your thread to keep it in latest posts. Report the answer if it bothers you.

I never look at the 'unanswered questions' list anyway so maybe most others don't either. At least by someone giving a 'non-answer' it pushes the item back onto the Latest Posts list

I tend to just look at the Latest Posts but its a race against time to see them as they disappear so quickly if there are a lot of people posting! Just answer your own question or add a bit more to it to keep the thread going............

I don't know what to say about something you have forgotten when I don't know what it is that has gone from your memory. So I'll go along with ummmm and factor30 on this one.

i dont think most people care about answered/unanswered ...they will look and answer anyway if they know the answer....or read the posts to check

i dont htink people just ignore questions just because it has one 'answer'...so dont worry about it.

i htink most people look at latest posts or just check the topics rather than goto unanswered...

Please report answers like that, they are unhelpful and should be removed.

At worst your question will probably be bumped when I post on it reminding everyone to not bother posting unless they're going to be useful. Except in chatterbank of course, you don't have to be useful there.

I do agree though, I can never see the point of people posting "I don't know" unless a question has been directed at them specifically.... some people seem to just like seeing there name on the screen.

I look at unanswered questions to see if I can help, but it's not a priority - if you feel you need to bring it to our attention again, don't keep putting up new posts, just add reminders to the original one. Having lots of posts with similar titles can get very confusing (and doesn't mean they'll get answered any faster).
