today I tried to say to a fellow aber L O L. This came out as Mwahaha or something similar. Why. and when I put W T F it came out as what the funicular. While I appreciate there may be some things that are unacceptable L O L and W T F are not on the list, and are normal text speak. I found your substitutions both totally unnecessary and annoying.

W T F has always been substituted because the F is a rude word.. ;)

L O L is as a result of a discussion in a previous thread, its only for this weekend so make use of its final hours :)

ok the f may be a rude word but f on its own is not. we are going from the sublime to ridiculous here IMHO. I am an oldie but sometimes these shortcuts help us to quickly get our point across and if we are only alluding to a "bad" word then why change it.
Try putting l o l with various amounts on O's

*Chortlesplutters*

umm I am giving up and going to bed!
you are still making the same keypresses (w t f ) so you dont have to change what you type and the word has been substituted for quite a while now so most people know what you mean.
oh lolololllolol
*Titter*
I used 7 O's in that one :-)

Any reason why you would need to harry?
I find it absurdly irritating as well grascarp- and yes on occasion you might need to type the word Boo, it's a proper word actually with an appropriate context to be used in, it's not merely a swear word.
I wondered why there were so many mwahaha's.
What is the appropriate context for using that word on this site?
lol.
Sorry Noxxy, but I disagree. It is a swear word and as such has no place on a forum. If you can't express a paragraph without needing to resort to such words then it's about time you equipped yourself with a dictionary and learn new, more appropriate words. I don't mind seeing words like "bugger" etc, infact I use them myself, but to see the F word.....<shudder>

I'm not saying that because im a moderator either, I find swearing in text incredibly juvenile and makes the poster look slightly childish.

imo.
Ahhh, see Ed agrees with me.
I just find it makes the site seem so childish and silly all the time, it's quite irritating reading people's replies when you get words like 'nudgescuffler' and 'chortlesplutter' turning up every few lines.Whay can't people simply type whatever they wish and if it's what the current Editor considers a 'profanity' then it gets starred out- at least that doesn't make the whole things so silly sounding.
It doesn't matter who agrees or who doesn't the word is a proper word, and has a proper place ( not as a swear word)- YOU get a dicitonary and look it up since you don't seem to understand that, I certainly don't need to find substitute words for it as I rarely use it, but none the less making the site only fit for 7 year olds isn't going to improve things for anyone.
