I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be quiet. And the advertising would be fine. Regulars like those visiting this thread don't click ads and make up a tiny portion of the overall users. In site terms useful social traction is provided. Personally though I just like you all, which is why you get my attention.
"Could you have a look at this return button issue now plaguing some of us.....suspect that is your side of the house and not Gravatar's.....thanks."
Going to check it out on a Win7 Machine in a mo!

B00 - be careful when you use chopsticks with a Chinese family......if you can't use your right hand, apologise......if you don't know this already, just as in the Middle East, right hand is for eating and the left for the backside. Asking for a polite exemption shows that you have a little knowledge of their culture - and you won't be banned! If you do know, my apologies but it is also useful info for any other southpaws out there.

"Ed, can I ask a serious question?
(that wasn't it).
Can you see the IP addresses people log in from?"
Forgive me answering on the Eds behalf...
Yes, the webserver will log all IP addresses posts come from, but in the majority of cases that information won't be any use because most people will be posting from a dynamic IP address that will change fairly regularly (normally a router reset will change the IP), it may be possible to narrow down what ISP people use but that's about it.
(I on the other hand am posting from a static address so the ED could do a nslookup and find out where I am and who I work for.... not that it bothers me if he does)
