It does appear that a number of ABers get upset by some of the adverts which appear on this site.

Until today, I have refrained from blocking-out adverts, which are important to AB; in the knowledge that a superb site would not survive without them.

However,I am concerned about the flashing ones which I feel could be responsible for affecting my eyesight.

Consequently, I am now resorting to 'Adblock' and suggest that the Ed examines the whole question of adverts and the effect they have on individuals.

So the more people who click on the ads the better?
I wonder how many AB users actually use Ablocker anyway, and therefore what the lack of 'impression' counts actually is. Maybe it is only a small percentage.

Probably :) I'll see if I can check.
Regardind those who have suddenly seen ads: this should explain it: https://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads
I think AB provides an excellent service, I have found it extremely useful on many occasions as im sure many others have, the fact that AB does not answer questions directly means nothing, AB provides a service where people can come looking for advice and answers and thanks to AB many people come here just for a chat and a laugh. I think AB is providing an excellent "FREE" service for all us regulars and the not so regulars.
I'm probably being a bit thick here Ed, but do we have to click on the ad to make it count in your favour? whilst I don't have a problem with the ads being there I don't fancy clicking on them.

I am back.....Finished painting the front door and porch area.

Ed...Very early in this thread you told me ,personally, that there isn't a question to examine here. Consequently, with answers now quickly approaching the 100 mark, I respectfully request that that answer is removed from the page concerned.

No doubt, I shall comment further. In the meanwhile, I would wish you to
know that since engaging Adblock on AB, I have not been aware of a single advert. Also, whilst £50 per annum would be a high amount to pay for an advert free site, I feel sure that I could afford any amount up to £25.

Asking the ed to remove his own post is a bit much, Ron.
i simply enlarged my screen and ignore the top and sides!

If you start charging a fee to use this site, will Ron pay mine?

After all, it was him that kicked off the whole thing and I'm not in the least bit bothered about using a site that's FREE to use with a bunch of adverts I never even notice.

Rocky, I wondered about that too. If it goes in the Ed's favour, I'll click away happily. No owls tho please, I try not to go motoring :-)
Ron will pay for everyone I think Evian.
does that mean Ron will have to buy me an owl? I could be like Harry Potter.
As I don't use ad blocker and I'm on here 24/7 am I subsidising all the other users?

Ed.....You don't know if perhaps I am a multimillionaire. Just with the thought in mind, will you tell me how much a year you will be requiring.:-)

Ron.
My son has suggested a 'Donate' button.... Not often he comes out with something that makes sense....at the moment he is trying to kill a Great Dane with a tea towel :0/..... anyway back to the button. That way we could pay what we can afford [if it were to got that route].
Just a suggestion.... and while I'm here, didn't we used to be able to PM? Or did I dream that?

Nice one divegirl......There are sites which survive on donations and sponsorships; without any adverts being involved.

"As I don't use ad blocker and I'm on here 24/7 am I subsidising all the other users?"

Yes, you, and soon Ron.
that's right, Lisa, but it got too complicated or something so a previous regime removed it. Shame, it was a very good way for The Clique to lay plots.
