Hackers?

Was this site hacked at the weekend? Some answers appeared in pink square boxes, AB Ed-style - one of them actually purporting to be from AB Editor, but in green - then vanished. Some regular users have been barred, and have had to sign on under new names (rod, acw, vinny). Are our email addresses secure? Should users be worried?

Dear Users,

Thank you for a lively Monday morning. In short, the AnswerBank was not hijaked nor in anyway hoodwinked over the weekend. The mysterious "pink box" was formatted (in the same way we can change our font colour) by a user - not I. And please note - submitting "test" postings put you at risk of being reported and hence temporarily suspended. So please don't do it. The rule is - if you can see it in your Profile, it will go live once its been reviewed by AB ED.

relieved to hear it, AB Ed. And if anyone can tell me what a test posting is, I'll try not to do any.

Meanwhile, it appears acw was suspended because of multiple postings caused not by her but by a computer glitch, almost certainly at the AB end (I say this because it happened to me and I knew nothing about it until I found a lot of posts removed). That doesn't seem fair, does it?

ABE I'm sure we all appreciate yir thanks. It takes a lot of time and effort you know so it's good to get some recognition now and again. I bet you can't WAIT to come in on a Monday to catch up on 2 1/2 days' worth of incisive and constructive posts........
