Threads as spoilers...

Now the fuss has died down, I wonder if the Ed could arrange a 'Heading' both within the 'Sport' Topic & its subsidiary Topics, especially 'Football'.
It might say something along the lines of -
Welcome to the AnswerBank Football Section - when starting a thread, please refrain from using titles that will show in Latest Posts as 'spoilers'.
A recent example was (with apologies to mickrog!) -

I'm sure that I wasn't alone in looking forward to the highlights on MotD & was a bit miffed to see this thread pop up & pretty much give the result away.
A non-specific title - eg, "Premier League Result", "Champions League Final" - would enable the user to fill the question box with the meat of the thread & warn others not to open it & spoil their enjoyment later on.
This is of course an excellent idea, but dissenting opinions are welcome...
As always, thank you for your time & attention :-))

Although no football fan, I assume that the majority of people interested in the same would be either watching or listening live. Leaving sport aside, the premise that one has to tread on eggshells when posting on a topic, the contents of which are all too familiar with the majority of posters, merely because some individual, for whatever reason, decides that he has something else to do at the time, therefore no mention should be made when posting thereon until such time as it has suited him to view it, is not only thoroughly selfish but also virtually impossible to work in practice.
Apologies, I've been away from the PC.

Why? All I've made is a suggestion that I & others be able to use AB without fear of something else being spoilt for us.

I don't have Sky & prefer televised highlights to live radio commentary anyway.

Assuming (perhaps falsely, granted) this is directed at me - doing something else at the time would be contributing elsewhere on AB. I've made no mention about users being able to post whatever they choose IN a thread, whenever they choose to do so. If I've not opened it, how would it possibly bother me? Asking for a change in the etiquette used for titles hardly seems something impossible to work in practice - people either will or won't respond to such an idea.
At no point have I tried to force my opinion on anyone regarding the content of thread titles, rather I was attempting to appeal to users' better natures.
Perhaps I've failed - so be it.

it also means that you mustn't have a title saying "Great work, Man City!" or "At last, after 44 years", or even mickrog's moderately oblique one.
That seems unduly restrictive to me. I think people who don't want to know what's happened in the world need to cut themselves off from the world for the duration, and that would include AB. It isn't the duty of others to shield them from the truth by talking in whispers.

I'm not a footie fan but I can see where L-i-K is coming from. I get annoyed when people insist on putting soap spoilers in their titles, i.e. "Wow! Tonight's Corrie! David Platt Splattered By A Car!" (this is not an actual thread title but merely an example) when a little common courtesy and forethought for those of us who haven't yet watched it, they could post a title such as "Tonight's Corrie - Spoiler Alert!" I'd have no problem with them talking about what happened in their actual thread, but PLEASE! Not in the title!
I don't disagree that those who visit AB while not wanting sports results are living on the edge, but I think it's fair to ask people to put a spoiler notice when they're giving away things like:
1. Scores
2. Whodunnit in tonight's soaps (If it's from a magazine, rather than from the program itself - I suppose it's fair game after airing.)

Not sure why everyone has had such a negative response to Lie-in-King's request. I enjoy lots of sport which i can't always watch or listen to when live, and know how it is to avoid most places you'd expect to hear a result, only to have it crop up somewhere less expected.
It's a simple thing to add 'spoiler' and have a little thought for others.
Let's hope you don't get any more difficult requests than to consider the title of your posts.....

As I said you also need to be aware of not giving the info in the first few lines of text...
but at least if it was just the titles latest posts won't give anything away. you only have to avoid sport for a few hours...
heres one....
SOAP SHOCK: ITS NOT REAL......
that will surprise a lot of people I think
Have anotherruffle your maj I am feeling generous with my fingers
