Rating questions

If it is possible for the user asking a question to rate the answers they get, would it be possible for other users to rate the same answers too? I suggest this could be done separately, and obviously you would not be able to rate your own answer. Or even better, could we be allowed to rate other people's questions?

I figured that the rating was based on how helpful or unhelpful the answer was to the person posing the question elgroucho. Which means that person is the only one who knows.
personally, I'm non competitive, and do not want to be compared to others, or compare others by rating their answers to my question. (Tried it once and felt bad)
Their was a thread on here recently which down graded someone's question, and it has been removed.

Hi artee, I didn't mean it as a competitive thing, just as an alternative to how useful other users found the answers too. Most answers don't get a rating, and I though this may help.

It's nice to receive some recognition - mainly with a 'thanks', but I gave up using the rating system long ago for the reasons Artee expressed..

 I didn't actually misunderstand your motives, it's just that I'm sensitive to how people will feel. Even though I do put my foot in it at times. And I'm only sensitive towards others feelings beacause I'm a tad sensitive myself. But that is well managed now.

I know what you mean artee - I don't lke to disappoint people either, so I prefer to post ' thank you' individually, or at the end of a thread. That way everyone's happy!

I'm happy to be awarded stars by an inquirer for my helpful answers, and to do the same for those who help me. But I can't see why others should get in on the act - unless there's to be a competition to see who can accumulate the most stars for a single post. And I'm darned if I want my questions rated, I just want them answered.

I believe you can already rate your own answers, which of course could put you well on the way to the chocolate cake prize.

As I said  rod, I do put my foot in it sometimes. And I did apologise, and explain. It had somethimg to do with all the teasing about  duplicate identities. and  I did not see that anyone was answering your question, so it appeared that the 'multiple personality/ies were talking amongst themselves.( You cannot deny the talk that was abounding on the subject) And TLC said he was everyone. It was all playful , and if everyone else can be playful about these things then so should I be able to. Once again I am sorry for upsetting you. Please accept this.

Thanks for the suggestion. As mentioned above, the star rating is meant for the originator of the Question to recognise unusually helpful answers. If you encounter an answer or question that proves in any way useful, amusing, outrageous (in a good way) or enlightening why not mention so in the thread? A nice comment goes a long way on The AnswerBank, dontcha think?
