Do we need separate categories of 'politics' and 'current affairs' under news? They are barely used because people put 'current affairs' under the main heading; there's really no difference between 'news' and 'current affairs'; and nearly everything involving politics is news anyway; can't think of anything which isn't unless we discuss future policy which isn't currently in the news.

No, we probably don't. They're legacy topics which we've not got round to throwing out yet.
