OK Daily Wail spin aside what do you reckon?

I would have been very unhappy if it had been my relative who had been refused fish fingers. It really would not have hurt the proprietor or manager on duty to allow this man to have an item from the children's menu.

I read that and although I agree a bit with the hotel (kids meals are for kids) perhaps there should have been a bit of a compromise.

I don't see the point of running off to the press every time life throws you a bad hand of cards (that's not right).

I get the Daily Mail every day but usually only for the promotions and competitions.

Ridiculous that they said it was because of his disability. If I had ordered same I would expect to be told it was ONLY for children...why make an issue of "discrimination" when it was down to the establishment as to what was on the menu and for whom. Methinks some people need not to seek publicity and take people to task for something that was legitimate...IMO. However, they maybe could have given the chap a meal he wanted with no fuss.....no flexibility I think.

This smacks to me of poor staff training, set down the rules - but always tell staff to use common sense when the customer's needs are not within those rules.

Willie Forbes, 47, who visited the Royal Highland Hotel in Inverness for dinner while on holiday with his family, was told the meal - his favourite - was only available to under-12s, his niece claims.

If the above is true.....Willie is 47....Menu is for under 12s...what is the problem?

All you need to do is to send in another 47year old without a disability and if he is allowed to choice from the under 12 menu, then Willie has been discriminated against.

I agree he wasn't discriminated against because of his disability - he was treated the same way any over 12 year old would be.

I do find it frustrating that any eating establishment has this rule, however. Many people for various reasons can't eat a full sized meal or simply prefer 'childrens' food'. Perhaps the answer would be to charge more for an adult eating a child's meal or just serve the meals to everyone. I do accept that there would not be much profit in serving children's meals to a table of 6 adults though, they are usually relatively cheap.

I too like fish fingers (or did until they reduced size haha)...but agree daffy anyone can be partial...but it seems rules is rules and ne'er can be broken in some instances.

The children's menu is usually small, cheap and is offered as an sop to parents who want to eat out with the kids.

I'm sure any adult could order a child's meal if they offered to pay the price of the cheapest adult meal.

This was doing the rounds on FB yesterday, if what I read was true (not just about the fishfingers) then it seems he was discriminated against. With regards to the fishfingers though, I think they were very, very petty, shame on them.

Macdonalds don't make sure you have kids with you to buy a Happy Meal.

Exactly.......but.....would they then have said"My 47year old was treated as a child because he had Down's Syndrome."

It would seem that the disability of Down's syndrome had nothing to do with the issue.
