I was wondering if you could add another category - Remember This? or similar. I was looking to ask a question about a character in a 1960's comic, but the only suitable category seemed to be Quizzes and Puzzles. This category could be used for, say, asking about types of sweets that are no longer made, school traditions, "do you remember.." types of questions.  Just a thought.  Great site, btw!

It's a great topic liquoricemad and one that would (and has ) cause a lot of interest, but  'sweets from the past' would be best suited on the Food & Drink category and for the more general 'do you remembers?  the Chatterbank section.

Yes it would be great Sandra but unlikely to happen I think as it's been suggested before.  The trouble is with Cb is that it gets very 'busy'  - questions like that are often off the page very quickly & I suspect that many of our nostalgia fans on the AB don't even go into that section.

Thanks Cetti and Robinia, yes, looks like there's places where these sorts of questions can go.

Perhaps just we need an 'Oldies' section, eh, girls. ;-)

Yes Cetti & when we go in there we'll forget why!
Welcome Sandra btw - you'll soon get to spot the OABers!

"Silver surfers & Nostalgia" should do it.
this would be great then robinia and fp et al can chat to our hearts content about liberty bodices, mangles and hair rags.

Yes, that would be great! There must be loads of us who are of the "Silver Type!" Take notice, website owner! We will not lie down (well, not till the middle of the afternoon, anyway!)

Ah shaneystar, what memories!

Liberty bodices with rubber buttons. Navy blue knickers complete with pockets just big enough to hold a second hand gob stopper.

And the buttons were all skew whiff where Mother put them through the mangle !!
Mind you I have memories of the copper in the kitchen and the awful smell of bleach. Then it all had to be rinsed in those enamel baths with blue bags and I had the pleasure of standing in the cold scullery turning the ruddy mangle. Then out again to be starched and then more mangling!! Then when it was eventually dry, ironed with the old spit irons heated up on the range.Gawd I'm showing my age here!!

Hey, you're not in Chatterbank now you know!  Go & get your wincy nighties on & get to bed!

Oh dear! What have I started here? Sorry folks!
Okey dokey Robinia ,just filling up my stone hot water bottle now !! The one with the rubber bung in the top. Then I shall light my candle and off up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire!!

I'll leave you two to get on with it then...

Hehe - don't forget to 'go' - it's a long way to come back downstairs & down that garden.  Oh you look a doll in that hairnet!

Apologies Sandra, thought it was Chatterbank for a minute. I was transported back to the time when my mittens were joined by a piece of elastic and threaded through the arms of my little camel coat ......sorry.....I'll stop now....
Oh robinia ...don't get me started on outside lavs. I used to get my poor old Dad up in the night as we had to treck up the up the yard to it with a hurricane lamp.Mind you it wasn't too bad ,it was a flush one, all whitewashed out, unlike the one my Aunt had who lived out in the country. Two seats with a lid on each and a bucket underneath!! Mind you there was always the old Gazunder!!
Liquoricemad ...welcome to AB ...you have started something here.We love l to reminisce!!

Prepare to have your varicose veins slapped ladies!! :-)

Sorry Ed - we just need a quiet corner sometimes!
